Amazing Gaming Productions
What is your biggest advice for liberty-minded creative types?
First, research. There is so much academic knowledge on psychology, sociology, philosophy, myths, legends, spirituality and many other topics that it would blow your mind. These ideas can be added to your writing/creative endeavours in ways that nobody could guess. We have thousands of years of cultural knowledge at our fingertips, so respect that, learn from that, and go out and tell your truth.
How important is storytelling for our lives?
Culture is created by the stories we tell each other, so writing your story helps everyone, even if it only helps one person. Yes, storytelling opens us up for criticism, both our inner voices and trolls on the Internet will remind us, we are not perfect. But the great thing about art, there is no such thing as perfect art. All art is subjective. What is one person’s garbage is another person’s treasure.
Why is writing so important for creative projects?
All art is storytelling. We’ve heard the idiom that a picture is worth a thousand words. It’s the ultimate experts on what creativity is all about, telling stories. So, if you you are creating a video game, creating a digital portrait, creating a tabletop game, writing a novel or any other storytelling medium you need to know storytelling. I’ve seen hits and misses in all kinds of levels because storytelling basics aren’t followed. I don’t want to hear Professor Hulk changed because of therapy, I want to see the scene as it happens!
How long have you played TableTop Roleplaying Games?
I started playing when I was 10 years old, playing Dungeons and Dragons with my brother. It was fun, playing all kinds of different races. I loved spending every Saturday Afternoon fighting monsters and dragons with my brother.
Who is your favourite Superhero? Why?
My favourite superhero is Captain America/Steve Rogers. His story starts similar to my own, because he was bullied as a kid, teenager and adult. Remember the solider who beat him up in the first movie. But he didn’t allow that to stop him. He kept on trying, and eventually he got his break and became an example of freedom and goodness the world needed. That’s exactly what young people need today, someone that shows them that freedom and doing the right thing goes hand in hand.
What are your favourite computer games?
Recently, with all the fumbles in movies, I’ve been more interested in stories in video games. Currently, I am absolutely fanatical about two games, Horizon Zero Dawn and Red Dead Redemption 2. They have some of the best storytelling I have seen in a long time. For Red Dead Redemption 2, seeing Arthur Morgan learn the mistake of blindly trusting Dutch, the leader of the Van Der Linde gang, to making his own decisions and living an honourable life is simply inspiring, including the sacrifice he makes for John Marsden. It’s a fantastic positive change arc.
Horizon Zero Dawn is equally inspirational. Aloy is an orphaned child who is raised by an outcast tribe member, but through the course of the story, learns about a threat that threatens all life on earth, and unites the peoples of the new world against threats from the old world.
Tell us more about Tales from Trinity City?
TFTC is a tabletop role playing game that takes place in an alternate earth where there is one unoccupied city left, Trinity City. The rest of the world has been conquered by aliens around 19 years ago. Players create a super hero character with a variety of familiar (yet changed) super powers. They go on missions/adventures to try to bring peace and stability to the city.
What projects are you hoping to work on for Tales from Trinity City?
My goals is to emulate how TSR crafted Dungeons and Dragons into the phenomenon it was in the 80/90s and onwards. First, I want to create the full rulebook and lore book as the core set, after I get through all the editing stages. I’m going to adapt the missions I create for the beta test to create to be adventures/missions for the core rulebook too. That way players and game masters can have something already drawn up to enjoy a good gaming session or two.
Finally, I’m going to start to do expansions – where I write a a series of novels which adds to the story of the game world, and then I will release the update to the game rules and lore with all the new information presented in the novel.
What is next for Amazing Gaming Productions?
On May 9th, I released my lore book for public feedback. If you want to be involved, feel free to go to my website and sign up for my newsletter. I’ll drop the link in my first newsletter. I’m looking for beta feedback advice on everything within the lore book.
