Hey there, friends! This is a snippet of the second story Get Over It in my book Strength From Within. Enjoy!
Get Over It!
There was a strange look on her face. A look I’d never seen from her. There was a hint of fear, but there was also… concern? What was she concerned about? Was I crying that loudly? “What did I do, Holly? I didn’t mean to scare you. Let me tuck you into bed.” I stood up and grabbed her hand. She pulled away.
“I’m not ready to go to bed yet,” she said in a whiny tone. Only she made that tone sound cute. “You have to tell me why you’re crying.”
My eyes welled up with tears and I struggled to stop a whimper. I guided her into my room and helped her onto my bed. Laying down beside her, I held her in my arms. Her little head rested on my chest and I kissed the top of it. “Do you remember when we read Into the Darkness together? There was that witch you liked who had glowing balls of fire for hands?”
“I remember her!” she exclaimed. I placed my finger over her mouth and shushed her. She slapped her hand over her mouth and whispered, “Sorry, she was funny.”
“Remember when she vanquished the evil Queen and made her disappear?”
“It was magic,” Holly said with a wondrous expression in her eyes. “She was sent to a far off land where she wouldn’t be able to bother anyone again.”
“That’s right.” I giggled. It amazed me how much she retained in that brain of hers. She remembered nearly every detail of the stories we read.
