Do you believe in the necessity of art?
Necessity of Art
In a time of quarantine, many companies and individuals have been adapting to the situation. Books and music are being discounted or given away for free. Movies and T.V. shows are being released early. Art and entertainment are capitalized on and promoted to encourage people to stay inside and pass the time in a fun way.
Pros and Cons
This is showing us how important art and entertainment is when the world is grinding to a halt. It’s offering hope and happiness, and ways to connect with others online so we don’t miss out on social interactions or feel completely isolated.
It provides a way for parents to keep inspiring curiosity and learning in their children. Old ways of entertainment have adapted to provide new ways of socializing with online parties and discounted books and training programs in times of need.
That being said, who will survive among these discounts and freebies? Large companies will bounce back after this pandemic, though they will take a big hit. What about the small businesses? The self-published authors? The online stores that are just taking off? Can they afford to take a hit?
This is true among all industries, not just art and entertainment.
What Can We Learn?
Art is a method of teaching, exploration, creativity. Without those qualities, we lose balance in the world. Keep these aspects alive and thriving in schools, in your hearts, how we function as a society. Understand the necessity of art and the power is has to bring us together, promote critical thinkers, and push the limits of your dreams.
