What will the forest hold in Skylar’s Secret Part Four?
The siblings held hands as the dragon enveloped them in her wings. In a bright flash of light, they disappeared from the forest.
Skylar’s Secret Part Four
“Warren!” Skylar shivered as the darkness consumed her. She blinked to adjust her eyes, but the black remained. “Warren!” Her voice sounded distant, like she was listening to herself under water. She squeezed her hand into a fist, hoping Warren’s would be there. Nothing.
A glowing purple light glinted in the distance. She ran towards it but her feet wouldn’t move, sinking in a black sludge. Warren emerged through the night, surrounded in a clear purple bubble. The stone sat in his palm as he held it in front of him.
“Skylar! There you are. Where are we? Where’s Amy?” He took Skylar’s hand and pulled her into the bubble.
She flung her arms around him and sobbed into his stomach. “She can’t come here. Not when the monster is around. She needs our help. You have to kill it.”
“Kill it?” He stroked her hair, his eyes darting around for signs of danger. “We have a stone, a little girl, and a lanky teenager. How are we going to kill it?”
“Maybe there’s a sword in there?”
“Sword in the stone? Really? I don’t think this is one of your fairy tales.” Warren kneeled to face Skylar and wipe her tears. “Think Skylar, what has Amy told you? How do we get out of here?”
“We have to bring the stone to the Fairy Queen and kill the monster.”
Warren groaned and ran his hands through his hair. “Because that makes total sense.”
“Let’s run this way.” Skylar yanked his arm.
“What? We need to do something!”
“Stop. Do you hear that?”
Skylar fell silent and listened to the heavy breaths huffing out of large nostrils. She nodded and covered her mouth to keep from whimpering.
Warren picked her up and stood slowly. He felt hot breath on the back of his neck. The beast opened its mouth and roared. Warren began to run.
