Are you ready for the grand finale in Skylar’s Secret Part Five?
The beast opened its mouth and roared. Warren began to run.
Skylar’s Secret Part Five
“Run faster!” Skylar commanded.
“Get me to that tree!” She pointed to an oak up ahead outlined with a thin glimmer of gold.
“I can’t climb up there!”
“It’s not to climb, just get me there.”
Warren took three large strides and dropped her in front of the tree, his legs shaking. The beast gained on them.
Skylar held the stone and placed it in a notch in the tree. The tree glowed yellow, blinding Warren. The ground shook and the light exploded across the forest.
When the light dimmed, Warren saw a woman in a yellow dress hovering above him. She had large, translucent wings and a white flower crown on her head. Skylar lay pale on the ground on the roots of the tree.
Warren collapsed next to her. “What did you do to her?”
The woman smiled. “One moment.” A ball of light formed between her palms and she blasted it at the beast. It squealed with rage, then bucked its horn to pierce her leg. She shrieked, shaking the forest. With the flick of her hand, she forged a spear and plunged it into the hairy beast’s heart. The night stilled and the darkness lifted, revealing the full moon and the rustling trees.
She flew down and waved her hand over Skylar.
Warren was too stunned by the battle to object.
“Give her a few minutes to recover.”
“Is she okay?”
“She will be good as new. Thank you for letting me use her soul as a vessel.”
“You possessed her?”
“She was cursed.” Amy’s voice appeared in his head. The dragon curled around the Fairy Queen and rested her head on her shoulder. “Mia was banished to the mortal realm, and as her powers weakened, she could only cling to human souls to stay alive. When she found your sister, she knew you two would be the ones to help her.”
Mia shrugged. “You were pure. I chose you.”
“Wake her up! I have to know she’s okay.”
Amy scooped Skylar into her wing and placed her in Warren’s arms. “Take her home. I’ll see her again soon. For now, Mia and I must restore our Kingdom.”
“Thank you,” Mia said, bowing to the siblings.
She snapped her fingers and Warren and Skylar returned to the forest by their house, the sun setting behind the trees.
Skylar moaned and squirmed in his arms.
“Hey, are you okay?” Warren asked.
“We saved her!” Skylar cheered, the sound stinging his ear drums.
“You were unconcious. How do you know?”
Skylar sighed and looked up at the trees. “Amy and I are connected. I know she is safe now.”
