Skylar’s Secret Part Three
“What are we doing at the old treehouse?” Warren asked.
Skylar let go of his hand and huffed as she ran out of breath. “Amy has to know what happened. We have to help her!”
Amy swooped down from the treehouse and landed on the branch above their heads. Warren screamed, and Skylar rolled her eyes. “Yes, it’s a dragon. She’s my friend.” She looked to Amy. “It’s Warren. It’s him. He’s the one that’s going to save you.”
With a snarl, Amy leaned in to stare at Warren – petrified and stammering incoherent words. “I see the light in your soul.” Warren heard Amy’s voice in his head and screamed again.
“Weird, huh?” Skylar giggled. “You’ll get used to it.”
Amy hopped off the branch and glided to the ground, wrapping herself around the siblings. Her slender head rested on Skylar’s shoulder as she nuzzled her cheek. “He must take this journey alone. You must understand how dangerous it will be for a little girl.”
Warren shook his head. “Danger?”
“You chose me to help you find the one,” Skylar said, “It’s my brother, and I won’t leave him. You know I can do it. I’ve been in your realm.”
“Her realm? Can someone explain this to me?”
They both ignored him.
“You’ve only explored the lands that I am safe to enter. Where I must take him… I fear it will harm you in more ways than I’d care to admit. I couldn’t live with myself if…”
“I’ll be okay.” Skylar stroked her head. She held her brother’s hand and smiled at him like their mother did when she wanted to comfort them. “Can you trust me?”
He tried to ignore the dragon around Skylar’s neck and look at his sister’s innocent eyes. “I trust you.” He nodded.
The siblings held hands as the dragon enveloped them in her wings. In a bright flash of light, they disappeared from the forest.
