“When can I show you to my brother?”
Amy turned to the house and watched Warren through the window. “When the time is right.”
Skylar’s Secret Part Two
Skylar held Warren’s hand as they walked towards the ice cream stand. She gripped the stone gifted from Amy firmly in her free palm. Warren studied the skip in her step and how she hummed softly to herself.
“You seem in a better mood today,” Warren said.
“Amy said I could share my secret with you soon. I’ll know as soon as the stone tells me.”
Warren turned away so she didn’t see him roll his eyes. “The stone isn’t Amy, is it?”
She raised her eyebrows at him and stared blankly. “This is a stone, not a dragon.”
“Your imaginary friend is a dragon?”
Skylar slapped her hand over her mouth. Warren looked confused as he stepped up to the ice cream stand to order. Once they had their chocolate treats, they sat at a nearby picnic table. Skylar placed the stone in the middle table and watched it as she licked her ice cream.
Warren reached out for it, and his sister glared at him. He raised his hands. “Okay, I’m sorry. I just keep feeling the urge to touch it. It’s like when Mom takes you to the candy store and you want to eat everything, but you know you can’t.”
Skylar gasped and dropped her ice cream in her lap. “What if you’re the one?”
Jumping around to the other side of the table, Warren rushed to clean up her floral dress. “Are you okay, Sky? Did something frighten you? I’ll give you my ice cream if you want.”
“Pick up the stone.”
Skylar leaned forward to grab the stone, letting the cone roll off her lap onto the grass. She pulled Warren’s hand forward and pressed the stone into his palm.
The stone glowed a bright purple, and Warren instinctively covered it with both hands, staring with wide eyes. “What’s happening?”
“It’s you!” Skylar said as she giggled, “You’re going to save Amy!”
