Today’s story, The Yellow Danger, is inspired by Didn’t See It Coming – Parachute.
Out of nowhere, it lands on my nose. My knees tremble. I beg myself to stay still. It’s just a bee. Fluffy and yellow, like a golden retriever. A golden puppy is hugging my nose. Stomping on it with its tiny feet and buzzing with murderous intent.
No! Don’t think that way. I pray for it to leave. It circles away. I take a step, and it lands on me again.
Paralyzed. Dripping sweat. Frozen by the potential of getting stabbed in the eye. I didn’t think it would end like this. Held hostage on my front lawn wearing a housecoat. I clutch the newspaper, ready to swing. Sweat intensifies.
My neighbour yells at me, but I cannot speak. She laughs as my knees buckle.
I have good reason to fear these creatures, deceiving us with their fun stripes and the way they keep our flowers healthy. Screw flowers! I would rather look at a concrete garden than be swarmed by vicious beasts.
I should accept my fate. This bee and I are one now. I am its life force. I am doomed to stand on this spot for all eternity. If only the wind would blow it away. I feel my feet sinking into the grass. When will this monster fly away? If only…
It’s just a fly. I should have opened my eyes to check. All clear! The next bee I battle is going to regret it.
