Let’s go on an adventure of fantasy!
A few weeks ago I finished a fun mini-story in the mystery/thriller genre. Now, I’m going to do the same thing but with fantasy.
Travels of Hyacinth: Part One
A friendly face is not what I expected to appear when I turned the corner. The Elf King and his army had been hunting me for weeks. I’d managed to narrowly escape them up until I entered the forbidden tunnels leading out of the Golden City.
I had heard the synchronized stomps of the soldiers coming as I pressed my back against the cave wall. Silence came and I peeked around the corner to see the small light of a pixie. When she spoke it sounded like bells twinkling in the serene night.
“Hello, Hyacinth,” she said, “I’ve created a new tunnel to direct the soldiers. They’ll no longer be after you.”
“But for how long,” I sighed, staring down the dark abyss of the tunnel.
She giggled. “You underestimate my powers,” she said, “I can show you the way to your freedom.”
“What’s the catch?”
“Catch?” I heard her wings buzzing by my ear and the light she emanated blinded me.
“You know, the price I have to pay for your help?”
“You’ll know when the time comes.”
I nodded, eager to keep moving. She led me down the path, and soon I could smell the saltiness of the ocean. Smiling, I took a step towards the fresh air. Before I could make it far, she transformed into her human-sized self and stood in front of me. She wore a pink gown and her brown hair was covered in sparkles.
“Do not move,” she said firmly, the childish giggle nowhere in sight, “You will earn your freedom once you’ve travelled the path.” She moved her hand upwards and to the left, illuminating a tunnel beside the exit.
“What’s down there?”
She laughed mischievously and snapped her fingers. A green door appeared. “Open the door and you’ll see.”
To be continued…
