Why are you waiting to write your book?
Write Your Book
Anyone is capable of writing a book, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy. It takes determination, some technical know-how, and a great idea worth exploring. What doesn’t matter when it comes to writing a book is your age! It’s not too late to start because writing a book is a huge accomplishment that can happen at any stage in life. But you’re not going to get anywhere if you don’t start.
Some people have only got one book in them and others many more. The numbers don’t matter as long as you’re doing something you enjoy. Whether you make writing your full-time career is up to you.
What Can I Write About?
You may have an idea already, but you’re not sure if you’re qualified to write it. Or you might not have a clue what you want to do, but writing a book sounds like an amazing adventure!
Whatever state you’re in, I’m here to tell you to shed your insecurities. You never know what you’re capable of until you start working towards your goal.
So, the better questions is, what do you WANT to write about?
This is where you write about your life. Have you struggled with something (disease, heartache, career moves) and you’re ready to share it with the world? Maybe you used to be a rock star who travelled the globe or fought for environmental issues.
What’s your story? Everyone has got one and if you have something important to say, then it’s worth speaking up. Who knows? You might find a reader who relates to you and builds strength through your words. Share your journey in search of a purpose and someone (multiple someones) will think your book is extraordinary.
Do you have kids and are looking for something unique to read as a bedtime story? Or do you simply want to create an imaginative story that teaches a valuable lesson? Write books for kids! Spread positivity and make everyone smile with your creativity.
Read some other children’s books first to know how to structure it and see what’s out there. Especially if you don’t have kids, it’ll be hard to know how to write for them without a little research!
Mystery. Thriller. Fantasy. Young adult. Sci-fi. Romance. The list of genres and sub-genres is endless. Think about what you like to read. Daring adventures? Sweeping love stories? The genres you’ve read the most are the ones you can more easily write about. You know the structure, the formula, what you like the most about reading it.
It would be tough to write in a genre you hate reading yourself. If you’re struggling to find out exactly what genre you’re classified as, just start writing. The story will reveal itself later. Let your creativity flow and tell the story you’ve been dying to read!
Non-fiction is exactly as it sounds. Not Fiction. Think about things that you’re very talented or knowledgeable about. Are you a crafty person? Have you worked in marketing or the entertainment industry? Do you have some knowledge to share that other people may want to know about? Your readers will be looking to you to inform them about your topic whether for personal education or to make a career for themselves. You’ll be training them, sharing your experiences, and motivating them to keep learning.
Write about what you know. Do extra research where necessary. Share your knowledge. Teach something! Have fun sharing what you know and connecting with readers who need your guidance.
Tell Your Story
Everyone has something to say and it will take a little time and practice to tell your story fluently and with the most entertainment value. Take some time to discover the most important thing to you. What are you going to be passionate about writing? Writing a novel is hard work and it’s going to take major dedication to get it to publication. If you’re up to the task and stay focused on your goals, I know you can do it!
